Home Addition ~ Final days?

Here we are in the home stretch...and it's being stretched as far as it can!

Here is the outside views. The roofers are slowly finishing their job and painting will be held off for a while.

Even though it's not quite done, we're still enjoying it immensely! The shade has been wonderful and the added bonus of the swamp cooler working better due the the shade has been great too!

The doors are *almost* all installed. Eric has had a challenge with changing right hand doors to left hand doors...changing the swing.

And of course the kids *love* to help. Luckily Ryne doesn't know the difference between a dry roller and one with paint on it. It's been a real challenge trying to keep him occupied with something other than what we're doing when it comes to the remodel.

Ryne has been the first to sleep in his room. We kept the crib in the room the entire time but he's only been sleeping in it for the past few weeks. It's a lot easier to put a crib into a room without the doors.
So here is Lance and Ryne's room. Not quite finished but the paint is done thanks to some dear friends help.
Mackenzie's room is PINK. Three walls are a very light pink and one wall is a bit darker. I plan on putting some polka dots on the walls in different colors. Might even get done this weekend!
Kristen's room is lavender on the bottom and light pink on top. I still need to do the ribbon stencil border that will separate the two.
These pictures were taken before carpet which was installed today, just didn't get the pictures taken. Their 3 rooms have a chocolate brown carpet.
And Brendan's room is blue. He wanted an ocean like theme, so he got waves. I finished the wave border today so all the boys rooms are done as far as painting goes. The carpet is a Berber type and it was his choice so that's what he got.

As for what needs to be completed are the electrical, base boards, doors/casing, closets, window sills, built in desks, material for top of closets/alcove areas. Painting still needs to be done in the hallways, closets, bathrooms. New bathroom needs most everything and old will need to be remodelled. Carpet still needs to be finished in hallway, stairs and family room. Outside patio needs ceiling fans and lights and exterior paint. But all in all its really coming together finally. My original goal was to have the kids in their rooms before school starts. And we just might make it! Granted they may only be on their mattresses on the floor. But they'll be in!

Getting Closer!

Home Addition ~ Day...can't remember...Total days under construction...81

Well the drywall is officially up. Inspection should be tomorrow then they can tape and mud...as long as inspection passes. I'm really getting tired of all the waiting for inspections. I can see why many people don't get building permits, but this needed to be done correctly so we'll deal with it.

Here is the new bathroom.

Brendan's room

Lance and Ryne's room.

And hallway.

The stucco was also completed yesterday, I forgot to take pictures so I'll post when I get some. It really looks good. Still have to paint, but now with the exception of the roof the outside is basically done! I hope in another week or so I'll be able to prime and paint the rooms then just flooring and we'll be able to move the kids in! Dare I hope they'll be settled before school starts?

July 28, 2010 Home Addition

Wednesday, July 28,2010

Just realized its been over a month since my last post and people are starting to ask what our house looks like and if it's done yet. So I'm posting lots of pictures...and no it's not done yet...I am really starting to dislike inspectors.

Ok so after the framing was done the electricians and plumbers did their thing which took a couple of weeks...not straight working and there were a few delays for inspections, etc.
This is the new bath...

More pipes...pretty boring.

Air conditioning duct work in place.

Outside side view of house with framing complete.

The ceiling of the downstairs bathroom had to be torn apart to put the piping through for the additional bath upstairs.

And another view of the downstairs bath ceiling...I'm just extremely glad they didn't have to go into Ange's bedroom to do it. The fewer people that I have to disrupt in the house the better.

And a full view of the addition with framing complete, windows, in and arches up. Looks so pretty!

Once the ducts, electrical and plumbing were in then the insulation could be put in. Boy that made SUCH a huge difference in the temperature upstairs. We had the vents blocked off except our bedroom and the temp. would read in the upper 90's before the insulation and now its down in the low 80's! Soooo nice.

Next step was to put the stucco up...so up went the scaffolding.

It took the workers about a day to put up all the paper and wire that goes under the stucco layers...sorry I can't remember the technical terms for it.

And of course in the mean time the roofers were doing their thing up top. Brendan had to take these pictures because I was NOT going up there.

So this is what it currently looks like with the first 2 layers of stucco on. We have to wet it down twice a day and Lance and Ryne love being underneath when it "rains". It'll take another week to be done...one more layer to go I think and then we'll have to paint it later. But then the outside will be DONE! We'll have a beautiful covered patio for the remainder of the summer!!! WOOT!

Our WONDERFUL COVERED PATIO!!!

And the side view.
I have a few more pics...we had the drywall delivered today so *hopefully* they'll start on that tomorrow. And Brendan and Eric have been painting the eves. In another week it should really look like rooms on the inside...dare I hope?!!!

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Today marks the 26th day of actual construction but we have been living with/in the construction for 44 days.

The framers, Rob, Josh and Mike are just about done now...they'll return to finish putting in all the windows (we decided to replace the rest of the old windows in the house too, but we're waiting on one window to come in). They were great...hard workers and put up with the kids which made it extra great.

So for now they put in the four windows in the bedrooms, now we're just about enclosed...not sealed but at least we're not air conditioning Las Vegas anymore.

Today the electricians and insulation guys came.

Rob & Josh opened up Mackenzie's room wall (that blue one with the nursery rhyme painting on it) to make room for the window.

This is Mackenzie's view from her window...and yes, she has a strip view! I don't even have that! The lucky dear...I guess that's her compensation for the smaller room...granted I doubt she'll appreciate it until she's older.

And the bathroom is all framed in too! Shower in the back and toilet and vanity to the right!

Ball Home Addition Week 7

June 21-23, 2010

So here she is...isn't she beautiful!

Arches were put in this week...gotta fit some misters in too.

Since Lance sooooo wanted to help...he got put on nail pullin' duty.

And quickly found out that it's a never ending job and looked for something more "fun" too do.

June 14-18, 2010 Home Addition

Again sorry these are a week late...trying to get back into the swing of things after a trip with 5 kids always seems to take a little while.
So this week ended at day 22 of construction with 38 days total under construction. And looky looky what they did!

Here is Ryne doing a little peek-a-boo from the top of the stairs through the "wall".

We are just about entirely enclosed now with most of the interior walls also framed.
This view is taken from Kristen's room looking through the closets into Brendan's room.

Kristen's room ~ doorway and framing around chimney.

View from Brendan's room through closets to Kristen's room

Lance and Ryne's bedroom closets

Hallway

Mackenzie's room...that wall will soon make way for the window. And bathroom still needs to be framed on the right side.

Ange called on Monday night and told me that she could see the sky through the roof. They had cut into the roof to make room for the extension. And here's the new wall going up.

Of course more has happened this week...but you'll just have to wait til I get the chance to post it. The kids have had a blast running "through" the walls playing in their "new" rooms. I start to wonder if we should just leave it as is....hmmm.

Home Addition Week of June 7-11, 2010

Ok, so I'm a week behind. With the construction chaos and getting ready for our trip to Utah I just didn't get any posts up. And unless Eric takes some pictures and posts them it will be another week until I am able to post anything new on the addition after this one.

In any case here is all that happened this last week...

Monday June 7, 2010 ~ Day 13 ~ Total days under construction 27

And the walls go up. Its so fun to see them up. It really makes it seem "real".

With all the walls up, Tuesday the trusses arrive and are prepared to be put up.

Of course the exciting part was watching the crane lift and "fly" them over the house to the back. The first truss took a little time to put into place, since it had to be placed...just right...after that the remaining trusses just flew into place.

All eight are up!

Now the existing walls to the other bedrooms get removed to make room for the hallway.

And this one is removed to make space for the closet for this room. It had to be moved to the opposite side of the room so that the bathroom could take it's place.

And there's the framing for Mackenzie's closet.

The current doorway that you see will be widened for the hallway.

This was our linen closet that was in the hallway. It is being removed to make room for the bathroom.

I didn't get a chance to take some pictures on Friday but what was done was the frames for the hallway and also the frames for the walls separating the new rooms and closets were also done.
I am sure that it will look totally different when we get home next week. Hopefully Eric will be able to post some pictures this week.
