Brendans' Forms Competition

Brendan had an exciting evening tonight. He participated for the first time in a Karate forms competition. We have had many "issues" with trying to get him excited about karate.

These were the top three competitors for his age group. And yes that is Brendan in the top three!

As you can see he received a medal! Can you tell what color it is? And don't ask who the girl is, she just got in the picture and wouldn't get out. And I thought Lance was a ham!

Well tonight he placed FIRST! So hopefully this will get him back interested in karate. We are SO proud of our guy!

We have some video, but our computer is acting up and with my track record for getting things posted, I thought it best to at least post the pictures.

Tomorrow night he tests for his High Blue Belt. Black will only be three levels away!

Cub Fiesta Fun Cub Scout Day Camp

Brendan had the opportunity to go to Cub Scout Day Camp this last week and had a blast!

There were many things to do and learn. Among them, he was able to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow...and he even hit the target!

He also learned how to throw a lasso.

I hope is aim is pretty good or he might end up catching his brother!

Never fear...even though this steer "got away", Lance was safe too.

Brendan loved every minute of Day Camp and can't wait until next year where hopefully he'll have better luck in the Egg Drop competition.

Thank goodness he likes scrambled eggs!

School Awards for the Kids

Both Brendan and Kristen received awards at school yesterday.

Kristen received an award for Honor Roll for getting all "A's and B's" for second quarter. She had received one for first quarter too.

Brendan received the Dream Catcher Citizen of the Month for February. There is only 1 student per class that is selected for this honor and Brendan received it for his. The Dream Catcher Citizen is a student who exemplifies the weekly life skills, displays a positive attitude, has strong work habits, and a true love of learning.

Cub Scout Pinewood Derby

We had 2 firsts tonight.

The first first was Brendan's first time in a Cub Scout pinewood derby. He has spent several hours working on his car to make sure it is exactly how he wanted it. Dad helped cut the wood, but Brendan did all of the sanding and designing of the car. He didn't win 1st or 2nd, or even 3rd overall, but he did have fun and we are proud of him. He actually won 1 race, and took 2nd in 2 others. He wasn't that far behind either.

The second first was Eric finally won a pinewood derby. They had an outlaw's division for the Dad's/parents who have boys in the derby. The idea is to allow the boys to build and do their own cars and leave the dads out of the picture...so they created an outlaw's division to allow the dad's to make their own cars. The rules are...BE CREATIVE. So...without weight restrictions and other rules, Eric proceeded to make a TRAIN...yes a train. The block of wood was cut about half way down. The gold part is a lead pipe. The back of the train is a transformer, with some steel rods as the rails of the train on the sides. A few bolts were added for the smoke stacks.
The rules for the boys are that they have to be under 5oz. and the size cannot be altered very much. Eric's car weighed 41oz. It was the talk of the derby. Eric brought a train whistle to blow when his car was on the track. Everyone loved it. The best part...Eric took 1st place in the Outlaw's Division.

When they raced the 2 cars together...you guessed it...DAD WON!

THAT'S MY BOYS!
